Celebrate Juneteenth 2013

JUNETEENTH IN THE UNITED STATES

Juneteenth is an annual observance on June 19 to remember when Union soldiers enforced the Emancipation Proclamation and freed all remaining slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. This day is an opportunity for people to celebrate freedom and equal rights in the United States.

Here is a list of events on the Tampa Bay Region:
 
St. Petersburg: Juneteenth Celebration, 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 4th at West St. Petersburg Community Library at St. Petersburg College, 6605 Fifth Ave. N. Learn about Juneteenth and its meaning with Faye Dowdell and make an African drum. There will be prizes and fun for kids.

Port Richey: Juneteenth Celebration, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 3rd, former Booker T. Washington School, 6105 Pine Hill Road. Garage sale, health screening, voter registrations, food, karaoke and spoken word. Guest speaker Evangeline Moore, daughter of civil rights leader Harry T. Moore and Harriette Moore.

Plant City: Juneteenth Culture Fest 2012, noon to 7 p.m. June 3rd at Samuel W. Cooper Park, 912 E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. R&B, hip-hop and gospel music, dance festival, horse rides for children, fishing and DJ Chase from WBTP-FM 95.7.

The 2018 Bay Area BIG Bash on the Calypso Queen

Approximately 150 persons cruised the Clearwater bay with the annual Blacks In Government fundraising cruise on Saturday, February 3rd. The group was made up of members of BIG - The Bay Area Blacks In Government Organization and their guests. Patrons boarded the boat to a glass of Caribbean Rum punch. Following a brief introduction, the boat Calypso Queen lived up to its name. The Caribbean music began swinging soon after everyone enjoyed their sumptuous Caribbean style dinner.  The buffet comprised about 15 dishes from salad to soup, fish, chicken and beef. As planned, most guests wore masks or costumes. Some of the most exotic entered the contest for best mask. The winner was Ms. Parvin Thomas and employee at the VA. MORE PHOTOS VIDEO
